All Alds (sans Souds) have a unique connection to the Dhammakert that gives them low level telepathy to each other, with the connection being stronger as you go "up" the caste ranking in terms of casting ability. Plats can identify people through the Khert, locate them, tell how they're feeling, and even communicate with them to a degree. Given that it's Plats detecting other Plats its probably an even stronger connection. The Dhammakert also apparently tells plats "Secrets", but it's unclear whether that's a literal statement or purple prose.
This is part of why Souds are distrusted in Alderode, because the rest of the country can't interpret their intentions and behaviors as well as they can with other Aldishmen. Of course, this means that the no good pissmops are up to skullduggery.
