Battle for Mewni in the first half of season 3 wraps up the overarching villain plot they've been building. It has some pacing issues, but overall does a good job.
From there it goes downhill in quality and focus pretty steeply. Unfortunately most of the plot threads which aren't satisfactorily resolved in Battle for Mewni never get satisfactorily resolved, so there's no real reason to keep watching for closure.
