Before the internet, people had to interact and be a part of a tangible community. The sidewalk was somewhere you could go to see and be seen by the people more closely impacting your life. Now with the internet we can live in the same house with the people we live the most and interact with them less, breaking off into microcultures within the same household, isolating further, in a sense, but also gaining meaningful insight about the people you love: You are capable of loving people you disagree with, people different than you.
Or maybe you break off from them too and become lonelier despite being only feet away from people.
