In the case of GMO's, I agree with him that concerns about mutagens is stupid but he fails to acknowledge the very real legal concerns. Likewise, when it comes to spaceships and cyborgs, I think he believes it's just social attitudes holding those things back. Resources, radiation, gravity, space madness, the complexities of the human body etc, these are very real problems and they're not easy to solve but he doesn't seem to admit to that.
To some extent, I think Bob believes sci-fi tends to be more plausible than it really is.
