We all know how Illumination is though, right? It's not even a secret; they make movies as cheaply as they can, with premises and pandering made to reach the widest possible demographic to make the most money they can. That's just how they are. I think the worst part is that you can't even say that any of their movies are really "bad". They're just bland at worst and "pretty ok" at best. Whatever.
Kind of off topic, but man I really worry about the upcoming Mario movie. It's so conflicting because Illumination injecting their lowest common denominator pandering into the movie would be terrible, but I also don't want the people at Nintendo to make this a boring Mario movie. I don't wanna sound like an asshole or anything but Mario never was quite the same after New Super Mario Bros kinda severely homogenized things. The Mario RPGs getting less emphasis on characters, setting, and story show that. I don't want the Mario movie to be that kind of bland. Mario games have had so many cool things in them that it'd be a shame if they just went as straightforward as possible without being at least a little more creative.
