apparently something similar happens for professional poker players, they get so used to sizing someone up and immediately gauging whether they're in the same league, and can't shut it off so they just judge the shit out of everyone and constantly scheme to one-up them in every situation.
oh and I guess people who do a lot of cold-reading scams, or even just practice it to show people how it works and how to avoid it, get so used to that level of analysis that they start believing their own hype
