>>107625880>>107625908my uncle was a trucker, and he had an emotional breakdown at a truckstop. It was before I was born, but it still shows isolation is torture.
>>107627778A lifetime of collecting knowledge. A good starting point for today would be Adam Ruins Everything - the old west, and the amazing History channel series, 'old west tech'. The gun episode is probably the most boring bit. Time-Life has a leather bound book collection about the old west -albiet with some misinformation.
The world of the vaquero is harder to find, as very little english material is to be had, and due to Mexico being a very low tech nation, there's not much online. Learning spanish is a helpful tool, esp. for fucking mexican women.
Another truth: because Mexican trade routes were pre-existing, and only came under the anglo-american sphere after the Mexican-American "war" (the US just straight up invaded Mexico and stole land to access California, and sponsored terrorists in California). The Comanche, Apache, Navajo, Mojave, and Kiowa tribes used Spanish, (not mountain-man sign language, which was never standardized) as the linga-franca of the west. Directions, trades, negotations, were Spanish until the post-civil war era. Spanish was still the second language of the west, and the third most spoken in the US until WWI, when 'patriotic societies' (the KKK, nationalists, and nativists) terrorized the German speakers. Lynchings, farm burnings, beatings, and vandalism are recorded. Some entire states made it illegal to speak non-english in public. The last of these laws stood until 1924, effectively killing US language diversity, and making America english-only. To push the point, the Texas Rangers, and US army lined up, and massacared 15 Mexican-Americans in Porvenir, Texas.
