When a relevant detail is woven in alongside other aspects of the background, the plot can go wherever it wants without either showcasing the direction of having it come out of nowhere

Without additional context to his actions he risks becoming a stale villain when the fall continues.

Currently I think the show is fine where it is, but if it continues in this vein it risks collapsing. The flashback scenes were a step in the right direction, at least.
