When something is not being foreshadowed or is a mere plot contrivance, or worse, lazy scriptwriting, then something coming out of the blue to resolve a problem is an "asspull" - call it a lazy plot contrivance or a lazy plot device or lazy scripting if you prefer, but it's far from a buzz word.
