Their weird ultra-strict sect didn't last very long, all things considered.
Something I think that gets overlooked is that modern Brits are also extremely prudish, perhaps even more so than Americans. It's actually something the English are famous for, being extremely sexually repressed and disapproving of everybody else's sexual habits, especially the French.
