I always think back to the Breaking Bad creator who said he would've never made his show if he was familiar with Weeds beforehand. And that'd be a shitty world to live in, one where Weeds exists but not Breaking Bad.
Comics, manga, anime, music, and movies all have shit where a ton of products are similar. Even fucking video games directly rip-off other games exact mechanics because they work. People just get antsy when it comes to American products because so few animated movies/TV shows come out in a single year, so it's always easier to shout rip-off, compared to live-action where there's about a hundred sitcoms of "Five friends in THE BIG CITY" airing right now and no one says dick.
If you're worried about people screaming rip-off, also remember people call Megamind and Incredibles rip-offs of each other because they're both animated superhero movies.
