Wirt has 18 years (three years timeskip) and he is leaving for Collage, he is very worried because he is going to leave home and he is considered an adult now yet he doesn't know what kind of adult he wants to be but he must to leave after Christmas parties.
He decides to travel through the town and after receive a pamphlet of a bunch of protestant who are trying to save the old Railroad (it's considered historic by the people because it has more than 100years) he goes to the cemetery and while he is sitting in the Wall he watches a really old train advancing through the railroad.
The train stops in front of him, and Wirt is surprised when he notices that it's driven by a big Pigeon (who needs to use his beak to drive it and it's not easy) the Pigeon asks him if he knows about a boy called Wirt.
After hear his answer Pigeon says that he has been trying to deliver him a bunch of cards for almost ten years "This old machine can travel really fast but it's still a train and it needs to move through train tracks and there aren't many in this place, once a pair of idiots tried to stop my train using his bodies but I didn't let them intimidate me" (he is talking about Wirt and Greg). Wirt took the letter and he discovers that his father has been trying to talk to him for almost ten years from The Unknown and now he is in the forest because he heard some rumors about him. Pigeon says that he can take him there if he wants to, but tomorrow will be his last visit for a while so Wirt needs to decide.
After a bunch of events Wirt decides to go to the unknown to see his father (maybe then he will decide what kind of man he wants to be), Wirt, Greg and Jason pack some things, get on the train and... Towards the Unknown.
