>>105889669yes and no it's not clear exactly how it works. for starters there seems to be two tiers of smarter, Salt and the twins from one of the badlands arcs talk indistinguishably from normal people in terms of grammar and linguistic abilities, they seem exactly as intelligent as they were as humans plus
the spies they make in the 100+ arcs can talk without what ever the weird accent or tone all the crossed have that give them away as signified by the different color and font for the text bubbles. the twins show some psychopathic tendencies too so they maybe that higher level requires it but it can't be a guarantee.
it's such an advantage to them and they are so rare compared to the fraction of the pop that are psychopaths (and it has to be from the whole group not just the extreme end because only salt was a serial killer the twins were just manipulative and had very little regard for anyone apart from each other)
the other type seem significantly more advanced and capable then baseline crossed but still aren't at human level cognition in a variety of ways. that one seems a lot more clear cut and it's caused by severe prolonged trauma prior to being turned. There's a lot more of them so we don't know all the back stories but in order of appearance
