I watched it all the time as a kid as well, and honestly, I can understand why. The universe kind of goes out of its way to shit on the main characters, and that sort of thing's usually only funny when the character is a jackass who has it coming. The episode where Dog obsessively guards one of his fire hydrants from some other dog while their fucking house burns down sums up the whole thing, really.

Its just painful to watch this on a visceral level. Its not even like your average badly animated cheap shit show. It clearly shows that actual care and effort went into writing and decently animating to exactly deliver this vomit.
