Homeworld's issue with cross-fusions is a closer allegory to race mixing as opposed to homophobia. Or in general, mixing discernible groups of people, like culture, class, appearances, etc. They must only fuse with the same gem types to keep order within their rigid caste structures. No formation of new personalities that have not been properly analyzed and designated a place in their society. Though, with thousands of years, one would have thought they could have had the time to manage social experiments, since the possibilities are numerous and untapped.

The "gay rocks" romance is more a default/background characteristic as opposed to a revolutionary idea, which is what /co/ loves to push for when complaining about girls kissing in their favorite comics and cartoons.
