Eisner focused heavily on tv at all times and his only trick was to steal someone else's idea and try to churn out a Disney version first. and his only trick in his last 5 years was to make cheap direct release sequels to everything including more obscure movies.

Ralph Breaks the Internet looks like an interesting case. It may make slightly more than the first film, but it also had a higher budget & a massive marketing push with all the Disney Princesses. It's a financial success since it made more money than it cost to produce & market, but it's not a roaring success. I would like to know what the company predicted its box office would be- I have a feeling it was short of their expectations.

Disney is safely liberal. Last Man Standing & Roseanne were the only productions that were not left-leaning either on the surface or behind-the-scenes, but both of those are kind of gone (Roseanne is now The Conners & Last Man Standing moved to Fox which will belong Disney in March). Disney will do some things that make statements (gay LeFou), but usually not enough to rock most boats (gay princesses). Iger keeps things safe & in-check. Playing it safe is part of Disney's current success but will also lead to a downfall. Disney is damned if they continue their censorship, damned if they let their crews imbue their liberal philosophies into their projects (WDAS is high risk for this under J. Lee).

Things are going to fall next decade. It's part of the cycle.

It was definitely and under performance, that’s for sure. Wreck it Ralph was a pretty good movie, so it was insulting to ruin it with a sequel that became nothing more then a Disney criclejerk of some of its most annoying/worsts aspects that the company refuses to shake off and grow up from after decades of it. I’m sick of the company being primarily gynocentric and always refusing to give up on the princess angle, when the only times they’ve made something great is when they were attempting to make something different for once.

Disney is making a lot of pure crap that they expect to bring in millions simply by name and amount of special effects alone.

Solo, Nutcracker, and Wronkle in Time all are big names that carry a lot of weight. But none of that matters when the movies are awful. No amount of high budget special effects and CGI backgrounds will change that. Seems Disney is not learning this lesson no matter how many CGI-fest bombs they make in a year.

This is actually by design. Part of the reason for the purchase of Marvel was to market that as the primary media/product lines for boy while the classic Disney line will be for girls.

Most companies are doing this now. Media used to be separated by genre but now it is more profitable to separate them by demographic and make specific targeted movies/games/shows/music. Cable channels have all moved in this direction so studios followed up as well. Viacom has shifted their channels around to be target demographic based.

This plan is working out pretty well for Disney so far. Studies shown that certain groups will watch certain movies and not others. Disney can maximize their profits after seeing that mostly 18-35 viewers watch Star Wars, males 13-25 watch Marvel, and girls 6-13 and 18-35 watch Disney features.

They are but this is not unique to Iger, John Pepper shifted the focus to using IPs for all future tie ins. Mostly from the need to rebrand/retool the California Adventures park. After Disney purchased Marvel they doubled down on basing all future works on owned IPs

A CEO is far from the flesh and blood of a company. But the flesh and blood is paid far far far far more than the CEO. But when it comes to a single person making punctuated decisions about whether or not the company will turn a profit, there is no one more valuable than a CEO. Or you could just refuse to pay a CEO a fair market value and see what quality of CEO you end up with. Because another company will snipe that golden goose of yours before you finish saying "proletariat."

So as videogames they're functional enough and SE has that top tier reputation. But Disney on their own making games? You get garbage like Epic Mickey and it's unwanted sequel that flopped.

So again, Disney doesn't know how to appeal to male audiences. They either Feminize everything or hire someone who knows how to do it and I figure eventually they ruin it anyway.

Oh Disney does have talent, mostly on the technical side. Their animation quality is still top notch, theres no disputing that. Problem is they're a very big company so they won't take any creative risks with any of their products, they're very formulaic and "safe" when it comes to writing. CEOs aren't golden geese. Their line of work is riddled with nepotism, rich friends promoting rich friends to important positions. When a common worker loses his job, he loses everything and his future. When CEO loses his job, the company gives him a 10 million dollar bonus.
