>>105220630The first thing I'd cite is that Guts has thrown off possession before. It may seem relatively minor compared to Soul Edge's possession, but it's still something Guts has been shown capable of doing and right at the start.
Second, Soul Edge's possession has been thwarted a number of times in the Soul Calibur series as I recall (and my knowledge only goes up to SCIII), so it becomes a matter of could Guts conceivably resist Soul Edge under any circumstance?
Third, some people just aren't tempted by Soul Edge to begin with so possession is never even a real issue. Guts does not want another sword besides the Dragonslayer. He turned down Flora's offer of a bad ass magical battle axe because he said Dragonslayer was all he needed. Sophitia and Taki, in their Soul Blade endings, both have no interest in Soul Edge's power and basically no-sell the temptation/possession. Guts would likely do the same. You'd have to pull a compelling reason for him to pick up the sword out of thin air.
Finally, and this is the biggest factor in my opinion, and one I don't remember if they even went into during the match: Guts has a very abnormal psyche at this point. He's spent so much time in the interstice, which is essentially the space between the physical and astral world, that he has taken on some special properties. Not the least of which is a sort of split personality formed from his malice, hatred, and fear in the form of a gigantic black hell hound, which Guts' ego currently struggles against. I feel like anything trying to possess Guts would be in for one hell of a fight. Far more than any resistance Siegfried ever could have conjured.
As I said my personal knowledge of Soul Calibur is limited since I haven't played all the games, but nothing in DB's account lead me to believe that spiritual possession would be a viable trump card.
