Part of the beauty of Spider-Man stories is that Peter always has to overcome insurmountable odds, both in his personal life and when he's fighting villains. A major theme to a lot of the era where he's married to MJ is that they both come to terms with the fact that one day he might not survive a fight. This has been brought up while he's tangled everyone from Green Goblin to Kraven to Rhino to even Vulture and Hydroman. Peter is an incredible combination of speed, strength, and agility, but a lot of his enemies are supposed to be more dangerous than him, which is why his willpower and his mind are his greatest assets. He talks smack because he knows a lot of his enemies could kill him if they concentrated too much, like Electro, Sandman, and Scorpion. He always finds a way to win because no matter the opponent he figures out how to beat the odds.
So having him suddenly punch off Scorpion's jaw, or just take out all of his enemies in one go completely undermines an aspect of his character.
It also undermines this aspect as well:
