>>104804590They both try to be all cutesy and "comfy" but it isn't.
Hilda has the kids running for their lives half the runtime, but then when there's a solution with a cute little bow, /co/ seems to collectively sigh, "Awwwww, it's so comfy," like that erases all the sequences of peril and abject terror we had to endure.
Summer Camp Island - I think I only watched about 8 episodes, so my criticisms may be a bit limited, but the whole schtick is tiresome. Everyone's a dick to Oscar, but the thing is, Oscar is such an unlikeable mook, that you WANT them to be a dick to him. The episodes I watched, I couldn't help wondering how much better this show would be without him. So it's mostly the characters on that one.
That doesn't really address the pretentiousness though, does it? Maybe it's that they put on this pretense of being "comfy," but the writers for both shows don't know how to write "comfy." So they write all chase sequences and social anxiety and rude, nasty characters and superficial lore that tries to be deep and nothing anyone says is profound or witty or even interesting really.
And the accents too are rubbish.
