I think it's more that we've gotten Nazis as villains for almost 8 decades now, they're pretty much the orcs of non-fantasy villains, and calling someone you dislike or disagree with a Nazi regardless of whether or not they actually fit the criteria for Nazi ideology has been commonplace for about 80 years as well. Nazis are a meaningless cultural boogeyman, to the point where Kieron Gillen got flak for depicting Nazis as fully realized characters in Uber, despite also depicting them as vicious bigots mass murdering their way through Europe and including the stock "My only regret in killing all the Jews is that I no longer have Jews to kill"-tier Nazi. While the other anon is being pretty fucking whiny considering the premise is, "superpowered comicbook Nazis won the war," and has been since the concept debuted in the 70s, there is nothing special about using Nazis as villains anymore.

That's not the point I'm arguing, I'm arguing that Nazis have become a stock villain where people will get upset if you deviate from the stereotype, even if that deviation is character development or historical accuracy, and that using Nazis as a stand-in for political opponents is worthless because everyone's political opponent are Nazis. The comic itself is fine setup for the story even if "ambushed by a building-sized robot" kinda grated on me.

Another Grant Morrison book that gains a sequel that completely fuck-up the point of the original book. Morrison wanted to a reality where the nazis won and wiped 90% of the competition, creating a utopia that everyone likes, making a point to show to link the nazis to the Americans and the few resistance left to the natives. That's why Overman was the only one left to still give a fuck about the war and his participation in it. He felt guilty for something that happened ages ago because he was alive to live it. The other people had already moved on.

This isn't a sequel to Mastermen. It's a reboot of the original Earth-X. Mastermen is set in Earth-10, which is a reimagining of the original Earth-X. Grant Morrison didn't create the concept or the characters, and has created to very different versions of such - the post-IC version of the Freedom Fighters and Mastermen.

Venditti: Except for Human Bomb, these are the same characters who we saw briefly at the end of the Multiversity: Mastermen issue. We have a different Human Bomb because that one was killed when the New Reichsmen’s satellite base crashed to Earth. As we find out in the series, The Ray and Doll Man were also killed, leaving us with our core cast of Black Condor, Phantom Lady, Doll Woman, Human Bomb and one new addition, Cache, the pilot of the new Blue Tracer.

We’re creating a back-story and motivations for each of them. Black Condor grew up in a city-sized factory where minorities are forced into hard labor to keep the Nazi manufacturing machine churning. He built a set of wings from scrap metal and escaped over the 100-yard wall, but now carries the guilt over everyone he left behind. Ostrander's run on Spectre is amazing, but that arc is one of the weakest. When Ostrander deals with theological issues it's amazing, when he deals with then current (and still relevant) social and political issues it feels heavyhanded and proto-SJWish.

The Legal Entity was a great villain concept, tho. So hard to come up with anyone who can actually give the Spectre a hard time.
