"calarts style" as /co/ believes it to be is a very specific brand of modern cartoons where the design and proportions are kept generally even and there's a lack of shape size and weight diversity in the character models. Symmetry and even parallel lines make for boring character designs regardless of what the show is about.

Yes, and that's one of the reasons why /co/ is full of bullshit. Both Disney and Pixar are full of former CalArts students, and they're very etilistic about it, waaaaay more than CN, Steven Universe or Thundercats Roar.

Chowder was ahead of its time and would have been significantly more sucessful if it came out now. It fits right in alongside currently popular shows with mixed theming in the characters, like Gumball and OK KO.

If Chowder and Flapjack came out now they would flop despite being good. Back then they were the only good shows on the network, but nowadays /co/ tends to reject shows that don't have certain elements to them. Purely comedic shows are often thought of as boring as are thrown to the wayside
