But the gist of it, in relations to this storyline:
Englehart wants Evil Carol.
Picks up a plotline from the Marv Wolfman GL run that came before his, where Carol is captured by her father's former partner, who seeks to destroy Carol and her father for an accident that left him disfigured. It fails and the former partner dies.
BUT the now dead partner has a son, who's a politican and starts doing his best to drive Ferris Aircraft out of business.
Hal leaves Carol, right before his scheme starts. Carol (still possessing the Star Saphhire stone) has a nervous breakdown and the stone splits her in two: normal female Carol and her male counterpart, the Predator.
Predator, who also possesses Carol's deep seeded hatred for her father (who never wanted a daughter and constantly told her so), saves the company via hostile corporate takeover and fires her dad and puts her in charge.
Predator kidnaps Carol and Hal tries to save her, but Predator merges with Carol and turns into Star Sapphire.
Carol's now evil and a couple of years later, murders Katma Tui via slicing up her corpes into pieces in a Christopher Priest GL story in Action Comics Weekly.
Carol gets kidnapped at the end of the story by an alien, doesn't reappear for a couple of years.
