This is an issue. If the only people who will go to see your movie are diehard fans who'll watch anything...then you get Solo. If you weren't diehard you didn't care as much to go see it and so it flopped for the general audience.

Rogue One was just after TFA, a movie that the general public received fairly decently.
It was a new story with basically new characters involved.

It was also before the real signs of Star Wars fatigue start to appear, which is TLJ. Solo looks and watches exactly like it appears: a cheap prequel that no one needed. Combined with apathy for TLJ and you have a film basically doomed to die.

Reviewers don't seem to be on the ball on this one. There's a big trend in the reviewing industry that, if enough people report a movie as doing poorly, everyone else will do it too. The trailers are pretty good, they sell the idea of it being this big movie with both large scale, special effects filled fights and a driving personal conflict that people can relate to. As far as these things go I think it has better trailers than, say, Captain Marvel

Yeah, people don't seem to realize that with Christmas vacations/time off every day is pretty much a weekend day $$ wise. If it does 100 million in 5 days, by the end of the next weekend, it will likely already be around 170+ and likely on it's way to 250-300 million in the US.

The last trailer (and the music) sold me on the movie. The visuals had a genuine sense of grandeur and artistry, and had clear composition despite being very busy.

I also hadn't known Patrick Wilson was playing Ocean Master. He was probably the best part of Watchmen and he was great in Fargo.

Anyway, some odd two years ago I said that Aquaman will be Dc's Ironman and the flagship character. Granted, I saix it half jokingly but I did think it would be a good Dc movie despite the favt that Momoa, while obviously a chill dude is a very, very average actor.

If you're observant with both film and comics, you'll notice that the entire sequence is filmed in a way that mimics the pacing and framing of comic books. It's incredibly impressive stuff.
