Like, take Arnold Rimmer. Like Pinkshit, he’s a character who both suffers, and deserves it. However, when he suffers, it’s usually as a result of him expressing one of his vices and acting on it, such as his arrogance or dishonesty, making it feel more justified because it’s a clear cause and effect relationship. And just as important, at least when it’s for comedic or cathartic purposes, he doesn’t take it lying down and responds vigorously, even if that response is usually to deny responsibility, pass it to someone else, or run away. It makes it so that even if his situation is pitable, he doesn’t need to be pitied.
With Pinkshit, not only does she barely even get a chance to be a heel and give a cause for the effect, but, outside of her mental breakdown, she barely even attempts to push back against the world, in either a positive or negative way. She doesn’t act like a sleazebag who never learns getting her comeuppance, but like a hollow, broken woman who knows that she’s fucked up her life beyond salvage and submitted to despair, just going through the motions. That’s neither funny nor satisfying, just depressing.
Keeping Pinkshit around in Boruto, and instead of redeeming her or fixing her, or at least allowing her to be a bad person that the audience can hate, just to punish her for being a bad character in the previous series, which is really more the fault of the writer than the character itself, is just petty.
