>>104231792I'm pretty sure the reboot was due to Raimi departing. After 3 he didn't want to fuck up again and he basically never got the planning for the fourth movie right, also because of Sony obviously trying to push their marketing-friendly decisions, like having Lizard be the villain instead of Vulture like Raimi wanted
But funny thing, I just read a quote where Raimi implies Sony was already planning to have a reboot
>I was very unhappy with Spider-Man 3, and I wanted to makeSpider-Man 4 to end on a very high note, the best Spider-Man of them all. But I couldn’t get the script together in time, due to my own failings, and I said to Sony, ‘I don’t want to make a movie that is less than great, so I think we shouldn’t make this picture. Go ahead with your reboot, which you’ve been planning anyway.’ And [Sony co-chairman]Amy Pascal said, ‘Thank you. Thank you for not wasting the studio’s money, and I appreciate your candor'Maybe it's because, as the quote suggests, Raimi wanted 4 to be the end of his series, so maybe Sony was already like "ok, how do we keep making money when the guy's gone?" hence the ready reboot
