It's around the same as Ultimate, but in entirely different reasons. While Ultimate had decent art and animation (though I personally thought they were crap), MSM looks like crap. While Ultimate's writing sucked balls and focused more on Marvel guest stars than on Spidey's cast of character, this show is more focused on the latter, and its writing is better. The worse that happens is the obnoxious focus on science, but that gets toned down halfway through season one.

I like how Spectacular handled it, where he's blatantly unapologetic about breaking shit and stealing large amounts of cash but he also doesn't want to see innocent people badly hurt or killed in the process

Quite curious, So originally there was Black Lighting he was popular enough to be consider to form part of the Superfriends show.
The issue here is that unlike the rest of the justice league his wrights where shared between DC and his original creator Trevor Eeden.
Since DC was greedy and didn´t want to share the profits they simply created a new electrical power black super hero. This kept repeating in other situation making new black electric heroes not called Black Lighting until it became a meme.
