And energy consuming. It yields a low amount of water per day compared to the needs of any population greater than a few thousand people.
>>104025730>Someone tell asians to cut their crap and at least make an effort to recycle or somethingABOUT THAT...
Many years ago most of the cities in the united states switched to single stream recycling. This means basically, "if it's recyclable, put it in the recycling bin." No sorting necessary.
How does this tie into the asians? For some time, it was cheaper for china to purchase our recyclable waste than it was to buy brand new raw material for plastic, paper, and other related products. They were literally buying our garbage and we were happy to give it to them.
Unfortunately, two things happened. The first was that americans (us) simply contaminated single stream recycling with non-recyclable items too much. It became too costly and too unprofitable to buy up our recycling that was too contaminated with unusual garbage.
The other reason being that tariff's placed on china kinda made it even less appealing. Though, that came after aforementioned contamination issue.
What happens to your recycling NOW?
It's probably being burned or sent out to a landfill somewhere.
