It's over, OP no matter how hard you viral market, the zeitgeist is over. Anime is no longer a novelty over here. The whole impetus for the show was a zeitgeist that has passed.

like sure the tropes still exist in most anime but they are too different now, not to mention the rise of other tropes

unless if you introduce a couple more Central Characters and modernise the existing ones it's not gonna work

besides, by the time they actually finish production, what's 'modern' would be old news.
more than half of the stuff on /a/ right now will be irrelevant after they (IF they) finish because for every series that will end, 2-3 will take it's place.
