Visually, this episode was seriously great.
Also, nice to show that Glomgold's falling off to the sea had some consequences, actually.

It doesn't effect each episode's quality, but you won't get the impression a character like Webby gets far more spotlight then the others. Some characters do get more screen time then others, but it's not as blatant.

They likely have their own infrastructures, but getting to the city would take longer than usual compared to the other districts. Industrial District probably has the same problem. Silverbeak seems to have similar problems but presumably can go through Rockerduck Estates than around it.

He is like Hank Hill and other older characters that think work trumps all. I agree he created his own worst enemy but it was entirely accidental and based on a misunderstanding of what each valued more. Scrooge looked like he was gonna give a bill but after hearing the GG plan he seemed to respect the kid which resulted in him giving him a dime. To Scrooge that meant more but to well anyone else that would be like taking your cock out, slapping someone in the face, and expecting them to say thank you.

Im sure they have at least one bank there. It may not be a big city one but they surely have something. My biggest concern wouldnt be the distance but the GIANT FUCKING SEA MONSTER that is close to the path they have to take. Well, apparently, Scrooge was trapped in a demon dimension for a while, so maybe he didn't age for that duration. My guess is throughout all his adventures, he found a few youth-restoring elixers or charms that allowed him to regain some youth. Physically, he and Glomgold are probably the same age now.

they essentially kept Scrooges birthdate as worked out by Barks and Rosa, primarily because if they made it Scrooge was born around 1900 or later, his backstory of having earnt his money during the big gold rush would have not made sense anymore.

To compensate they hinted in the episode with Goldie, that over the years and adventures Scrooge had, he may have been affected by the one and other magical artifact and curse that keeps his old age at bay.

It's actually a choice I am overall okay with, because changing up Scrooges backstory too much would have kinda destroyed what the character is and it sounds legit enough with all the weird stuff he did over time

The point is that barks designed him with that Scottish hat, and therefore from the very beginning indicated that Flintheart was Scottish. He just lived in South Africa, since, in his debut story, he had to live faraway from the US, as Scrooge learns of him for the first time in his life in that story. If he lived around the corner it's implausible that Scrooge never heard of his own doppelgänger. So OG Ducktales never changed his nationality, they just changed the place where he lived from South Africa to Duckburg.

Money Champ was a great Barks story. Just old fashioned "who has more money" plot, and Flintheart was actually a clever and cunning adversary to Scrooge, and Scrooge was actually invested. Too bad that in the reboot show Scrooge doesn't care about money or treasure at all, it's just "adventure" that he cares about, like some dollar store Indiana Jones.

Sure. Basically what will happen is Glomgold, through trickery, manages to win the bet and claim Scrooge's company, tossing Scrooge the clip as a cruel gesture. However the clip will turn out to be the key to unlocking Scrooge's sooper secret other other Money Bin which is even bigger than his current haul but locked away so securely not even he could get in without the clip. Thus Scrooge pulls a last minute win over Glomgold thanks to Glomgold's gloating. Classic Duck Tales.

Then it'll turn out that the reason Scrooge even had all this treasure so securely locked away is it's all the loot he's acquired from temples that is actually cursed so he could never really spend it anyway.

This raises an interesting question. Standard ancient hidden temple tactic is to curse the treasure so any interloper who finds it is cuuuuuursed. So what does Scrooge do when he finds cursed treasures? We've seen in this show that he has a lot of cursed artifacts stored away, but not a lot of straight up gold and jewels.

Think about it, all Scrooge’s money did was get him clothes and maybe a boat ticket. As far as we know Glomgold never had a gold rush or magic to use, so that means he had to have worked his ass off to levels that are usually applauded. All because Scrooge stiffed him and mocked his plan.

Well it wasn't really a mistake as much as just a missed opportunity.

Anyway it sorta bugs me that this show is willing to throw ANYTHING Barks did (including basic characterization of characters like Gyro, Glomgold and Scrooge) right out the fucking window, but then when it comes to something that they could have improved by changing (for example changing Rockerduck's name to Rockerfeather) they go "oh no gotta stick to those originals".

When it comes to Brands, Names tend to be more important than characterization. if they changed him to Rockefeather, then it'd basically be a brand-new character so the extra points of "bringing a beloved character" are lost in the masses and Disney itself.

Yeah, that's my bad. Rockerfeller tends to get called a Robber Baron, but he's not nearly as bad some of his contemporaries. Although, I swear, there's times where I feel like Robber Baron as a term gets used interchangeably with Captains of Industry or pretty much anyone who got rich during the Gilded Age.

I'm just saying it's weird to complain that an ensemble show isn't all about your favorite character.
And it's double weird to do it about a character who gets a lot of attention on the show. If you had complained that Donald isn't getting enough screen time I'd be with you 100%, but we've had a lot of stories about Scrooge, starring Scrooge and/or detailing Scrooge's life over the past ten episodes or so.

If it helps, Season 2 is already better. At the very least, they limit the kids in the main focus to 2. It also helps that Glomgold and Fethry were the focus the last two episodes. The episodes were the kids are audience surrogates and we're learning about another cast member seems to be the best use for them.

Agreed. If you've ever read Barks' stories, you'll see that his Scrooge was also much more evil and greedy than the DuckTales reboot version. It's more fun when a character can be both the good guy or the bad guy depending on a story. Also his name is literally "Scrooge", so it's pretty bvious what his characterization is supposed to be: a miser. Angones should have made an Indiana Jones reboot and just leave these characters that he clearly knows Jack squat about alone.

Well he IS greedy and stingy. It's just less pronounced because we don't actually see him as much in this show. The few times we do see him, he's reluctant to foot the bill, always looks for the lowest possibly prices, doesn't share the spoils with his family as much and steals Glomgold's food. But since the show is so focused on the kids, many aspects of his character are sidelined.

That's not uncommon. It's pretty easy to take family for granted if you've known them all your life. Part of growing up is moving past that bratty phase and the triplets are still just kids. There's a reason Webby thinks Donald is cool and his kids don't.

She doesn’t. They only interaction she’s had with him is getting pissy the one time the Triplets actually do show him some respect because she was salty they weren’t loving Scrooge as much as she did.

Some comics, like the really weird one in the 40s where they fight over a girl it's a bigger priority. But definitely less then Jose, that's kind of a huge part of his character after all

You completely misread that scene then. She was frustrated because the plan to get the family back together wasn't going well. It was a comic moment, especially since it involved the triplets suddenly reversing course on their attitudes toward their uncle.

And she does see Donald as an amazing adventurer in the earliest episodes. She even says as much to the boys.

Wasn’t really all that comedic to interupt what was in earnest a good moment, but i guess that it wouldn’t be the first time the show has done that.

She made one commoent in defense of him for being Scrooge’s sidekick in the pilot, and then never said a word about him afterward.

Look i hopped just as much as anyone else here that she would be the one to appreciate Best Boy, but there isn’t nearly enough evidence to suggest she gives two shits about Donald.
