>>103888070>Tell, don't show mentalityI have not seen this complaint used correctly, a single time that it has been applied to RWBY.
It does not mean, no exposition. It was never meant to mean, no exposition. Ever since those fucking anime youtubers starting shitting all over Sword Art Online and none of them had any knowledge of proper criticization of media, they all slapped on that critique, where the proper one was simply boring exposition.
Show don't tell, is applied to the actual execution of, not information sharing, but the actual point to point, second to second, execution of a show. It is literally when we are told something, instead of being shown it. A character's good nature, toughness, skill, evil.
Ozpin, talking to the group, could be criticized for being boringly directed, but it had a greater purpose than simply giving us a shitload of information. The characters, mattered during that speech, and care taken to show their variety of reactions. Same thing with the Menagerie. We were told a good portion of the island was unusable, and they showed us why, because big fucking mountains of desert, less than a mile from the Governor's mansion.
RWBY's issue, is the intensity of what we are shown. Miles and Kerry clearly in the first seasons, were trying to bullshit as fast as possible, because they had no animators aside from a dying Monty so they gave us a throwaway line about how it had to be Faunus thieves who did the robbing and Weiss's issues with the faunus, and Cardin's dumbass. They did slightly better in the latter volumes, but people still haven't got the message so to shut people up they got to step it up a bit. Draw from something other than American Civil Rights and expand.
