>>103702409>North PoleGod Dammit, I knew Illumination was going to mess this up somehow.
The original book only works because Christmas is something run by the Whos, There is no grander authority, there is no actual Santa coming by delivering presents. The Grinch impersonates a fictitious figure, and the climax of his deceit is when he tricks little Cindy Lou Who into believing that he is the genuine personification of Christmas, in the process requiring that she both simultaneously buy into the lie of Christmas, that Santa is a real person who delivers presents, and also that the Grinch, an inherently ugly and disliked person, is Santa. It's this chance encounter that ultimately convinces the Grinch to change his mind. Furthermore, it's only through the absence of Santa that we know the Grinch's actions are entirely selfless. Otherwise, perhaps he's simply decided he needs to bend to a higher authority, one that may come back to correct things, and/or exact revenge.
By including this sign, they've not only confirmed that Santa is real, but also that the north pole is apparently so close by that Santa could come by and stop the Grinch at any time, totally undercutting the point of the original book. Good job Illumination, you hungry money minioin fucks
