The trouble is that Drawn Together started to air right at the start of THICC taking over American culture. I think Keeping Up With The Kardashians was really hitting its stride right about that time. So the writers all assumed we'd laugh at Toot being dumpy and fat, but the culture was changing and our beauty standards weren't what they were even a few years prior.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians actually didn't start until the year Drawn Together ended (2007). DT first aired in 2004 and then the movie was in 2010 so they did manage to get a few years worth of Toot being considered the ugly one on the grounds that she was fat before thicc started to get a bit more of a positive recognition.
