They made her unlikable which is a bad way to start off a character. Dunst could be annoying but she was portrayed as attractive from the start, with a shit situation(empathic even) and turned on her shithead boyfriend.

They totally made themselves an out by not calling her Mary Jane. Whenever they do these changes they always do so with the ability to "Fix" them if it doesn't work out. The only time we've really seen this is the Mandarin short that went nowhere. Now, do I think this will happen? No, because the same reason the Mandarin short lead to nothing; the schedule is too cramped and time goes by too fast to follow up on these things. Plus Marvel may not have much time to use Spider-man left as is.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with changing a characters race for a movie as long as its within reason. What boggles my mind is that there are people who truly believe Michelle Jones ISN’T the MCU version of Mary Jane purely because of something Feige said once in an attempt at short term damage control.

Mandarin was a fix that actually makes sense though, since Mandarin is an alias. “MJ” is a set of initials, and introducing a second love interest for Holland’s Spiderman with the same initials as the previous would be convoluted, even for a superhero movie.

In the early seasons of Smallville, a lot of fans thought that Chole was going to be that universe’s version of Lois Lane. She was head of the high school newspaper club, love interest for Clark and used “Lois Lane” as a pen name. Sorta similiar to this Michelle, MJ thing. But then they eventually brought in the real Lois. So maybe things will play out similar for Mary Jane.

Absolutely unacceptable, you cast for someone who can pass for the original character or not at all. You will never see a white portray a colored character, but you will always see the opposite and there are multiple examples of it.

I actually like her for this version of spiderman. This version of spideman is closer to the the ultimate version buuuut she is no MJ. I wish they would have just given her another name. the spiderman GFs are not complex characters with a lot of characteristics but they do have a few defining characteristics. The red, as it was in the other movies, looks too damn cheap.

Why not just keep the Raimi texturing and color? it was perfect. Vibrant, but not too saturated, and not dull, with a texture that didnt distract without being too fancy.

The 4th wall break of calling her MJ was fucking awful. You should not need to elevate a characters importance and relevance through audience meta-knowledge. This is "robin" in TDKR all over again. Make your characters have weight through story telling, not references. It's a bad a move.

If the character’s race is changed, but the spirit/theme of the character is not, I don’t mind, ie Perry White, Heimdall, and the Ancient One. Obviously a visually accurate MJ casting would be ideal, but I wouldn’t mind an MJ race change as much if they actually wrote and designed her to be somewhat similar to comic MJ.

It really isn’t. The white is unnecessary and doesn’t fit well. The red material still looks cheap, like a morph-suit. And the logo is still too small. If they’re gonna add that much black to the suit they should have gone all the way in adapting the Superior suit.

Lakers often fill the blanks with shit they make up that "makes sense", and then the misinformation spreads until people like you consider it official.
