Contrast with DHX, which actually does have a near-monopoly. I had such high hopes for them when they finally bought some channels of their own, but their output has become worse and worse with each passing year - it's like they compete to make the most generic, unwatchable shows.
Oh, and just to be clear: Corus has a near-monopoly on channels. Kids don't give a shit about cable TV anymore, though. They care about content, which is mostly DHX's realm.
