Allurance and Kacxa is terrible. The cadets are boring and overbloats the super bloated cast.
Shiro is left without any family and will never get happiness since the writers think torture porning the same character over and over is good writing.
The bad pacing as well.

But in all honesty we'll have to see it all in S8. Now that the Voltron Coalition is still strong, humanity joins it further boosting it, even the BoM are still alive and kicking, so I honestly think that the finale will be great.

I’m not really feeling Allurance as a ship. They just don’t feel like they have much chemistry. Also I don’t see why Lance is in love with Allura when they don’t really have much interactions barring those occasional small talks and Lance is like the rebound guy after her brief thing with Lotor.

To be fair to them they did try with Allurance, whether it worked or not is a different question but there's a clear one-sided crush -> genuine friendship -> real love structure to it. Kacxa is the "he was a boy, she was a girl" ship of this show.

Is this show worth watching?

I dont really watch much cartoons anymore, the last ones I liked were GF, Avatar and Korra.

Does this show have a clear mainplot that slowly draws to its conclusion over the different season, or does feel like a bit like Korra, where you could feel that the latter seasons werent planned from the beginning and the writers basically winged it?

It has main plot, but it starts meandering in the middle where big bad evil guy gets put in a coma and is temporarily replaced by his morally ambiguous son with confusing agenda. I spent several seasons hoping it gets good again and in the last season I feel it does.

It's a fun space opera stuff about some kids, muscular Japanese gay man and alien princess beating up space vampires while flying around in robot lions, but it underutilizes its potential to a frustrating degree.

It's alright, definitely not as good as Avatar but way better than Korra. The action is good, the rest of it is a mixed bag.
The show is written long in advance compared to Korra, and they do have a consistent plot that they follow, but they are also candid about having winged a significant portion of the middle due to executive meddling keeping them from writing the story they wanted.

Watch it when it's all out. It's good for visuals and directing, the plot is so-so, a lot of things are skipped over or one-and-done. It's going to come down to what you care about. Characters are endearing but their onscreen interactions lease much to be desired, lots of tell-don't-show.

I just think it sucks that the canon gay loses his shot at couplehood in the season where all the of-age characters are getting paired left and right, in particularly when Keith is handed a free last minute girlfriend that he didn't work for and doesn't deserve. If overtly romantic Kacxa started earlier like Allurance or Hunay did or if Keith got with Allura/Pidge/Romelle it wouldn't be a problem. But right now it looks like an ugly double standard.

I liked his leadership (yeah it was generic 80s leader but whatever). He was thoughtful and wise, but he had moments where he lapsed like when he got pissed at Lance, or even got upset with Allura for taking the black lion. Hell he laughed at Allura when shot spanked or left with only a towel on.

I also enjoyed his rivalry with Lotor wasn't for Allura's affections but to get that fop out.

I think the writers are incapable of doing a character of Keith competently. They should have made him leader from the get-go or at least not have such deeply rooted issues as he did. Let him take up the leadership mantle willingly when Shiro is gone because he knows it's the right thing to do.

It's fine if he had moments where he gets upset, since original Keith did that too, but keep some of that level headedness as well. They kept saying Keith was a hothead but it didn't happen that often and when it did it came off as unnecessary and for the sake of having it. If they made him the quiet one, that's fine too, but they suck at the chip on their shoulder type, hence why Lance also a crappy development.

I liked original Keith because he was confident and thoughtful on others. I wish they could have given him some of that in VLD. Hell, he spoke to Pidge more than once. That was a plus.

His dad is dead too and Shiro died at some point, and he seems incapable of forming lasting relationships.
In the first episode he argues they should fight because Sendak could destroy the planet anyways while most of the others wanted to run away. He immediately goes to help the arusians, tells pidge "everyone in the universe has families", apologizes for distrusting ulaz and shows remorse over his death, gets mad when King lubo turned out to be garbage etc. Dude really cares passively passionately about people's lives and I'm always a sucker for the character like that. Not a fan of the Shiro muhing.

I see it as a failure with how the issue was resolved with a time skip. It's a cheap way to do it. As for Lance, his felt annoying to me and I would have liked it if he learned through Keith or Shiro.
