If Emrakul is fully in the universe, and unbound, then that universe will literally cease to be. They were on a hard timelimit with Ulamog and Kozilek before they completely regained full power and ate the plane.

Yeah, the Eldrazi are technically "good", but the problem comes from the fact that if they're summoned onto a plane, they literally *can't* stop themselves from breaking down and recycling it into something else. Even if it isn't dead or dying yet.

Does it matter? All they need to do is play Time Stop and Emerkul is fucked before it even gets to do anything. Alternately they can play Journey to Nowhere or Oblivion Ring, then follow it up with Sadistic Sacrament if they can survive the free turn.

Or if they're really feeling like being dicks, they can drop a Gather Specimens.

Time Stop ends the turn before Emerkul takes effect, bypassing her protection. Journey to Nowhere and Oblivion Ring are colorless enchantments, protection doesn't apply while in the deck so SS is in the clear, and Gather Specimens affects any creature entering the battlefield regardless of protection.

Emerkul can be pretty easily shut down without a fuss if you're prepared for it.

Mirridan, being an artificial plane of metal, was basically the perfect breeding ground for New Phyrexia. Presumably other planes would not be so easily corrupted.

This is true, but it should be mentioned that it hasn't stopped it. Elspeth's home plane had a pretty significant phyrexian presence. Wether or not they conquered her home plane, or were still in the process of conquering it ( which is basically the difference between Mirrodin total compleation vs Gix style sleeper agents and strongholds on dominaria, that were able to be purged but were themselves forward outposts for main phyrexia) is a whole matter entirely.

Theros was a kind of crummy set, but man I actually really liked the story for it, and the magical mechanics of the world of theros itself felt very Gaiman/morrison esque. Dreams became real, belief powered gods, made gods ascend, and even changed their personalities.And heck a god existing for a few days is long enough for them to have "always existed", and them dying a few days later, is long enough for them to have "always been dead".
