In spite of Korra there's still a lot of love for the world of Avatar on /co/.

So what would YOU do with the series if given the chance; sequel? Prequel? Remake? Side story?

I'm of the camp that it would be neat to have one series for each element. A few people were like "Korra advanced the technology of the world too much so the next Avatar would take place in essentially modern times which is boring". And then who knows what kind of setting the fire avatar would have.

But then it hit me...skip the earth avatar and put the fire avatar in a space opera setting. I honestly think it would work, because space opera is so futuristic it becomes the past. And conceptually, I like imagining what an Eastern world would envision aliens to be like.

So it wouldn’t just be space opera with an Asian aesthetic, it would be “what would an Asian world with no Western influences imagine other worlds and advanced technology to be like?“.

Not to mention that the original Avatar was going to be set in a far-future apocalypse with lost technology so it goes back to the roots in a way.

It doesn't necessarily need to be boring. The era of internet, information, hyper entertainment that will turn the avatar basically into a pop star like persona, medical advances that could be blended with spiritual and blood bending, the gold, silver and oil rush using earthbenders, and airbenders struggling to keep a monk life

Earth avatar who is a male, setting has the same level of technology as Korra and takes place 80 years into the future. The plot is various geopolitical fuckups that make the avatar question his purpose eventually culminating in him destroying the world to "rebalance" it.

I would make a prequel set during the Hundred Year War during Azulon's reign (20 AG to 95 AG) from the Earth Kingdom's perspective. Following the events leading up to the Siege of Ba Sing Se up until the present day of Avatar.

One of the things I actually liked about Korra (and to a lesser extent the original series) was that they had the balls to actually advance the technology of a fantasy world. Yet so many people hate that. I don't understand why.

You end up building this cool world, only to realize that it will all change dramatically within a century or a few decades.
I guess some people then prefer to just have a stagnant world that allows for an unlimited amount of stories in the same kind of setting no matter how far apart they are in the timeline.

The Earthbender Avatars goal is trying to reconnect the lost Avatar connections while running from the White Lotus that has imprisoned and trained him for much of his early life. Mini-series based on past and future Avatars. Every 3 to 4 episodes are focused on an Avatar and will provide insight into their lives. Because each Avatar lives in a different time the episodes can expand on history and create plots that can be returned to for other Avatars to deal with.

The series would be a bit gritty, some Avatars would have a melancholy life but there would be 'lessons' that would be taught (Living a quiet life isn't bad, family matters, etc); Training, war, friendship, and struggles would of course be the main focus points.

I'd probably want to collaborate with other talented writers, giving them each some episodes to flesh out their ideas. I'd try to make an 'over-arching' plot that seeds itself at the start and begins to fill in as we view each Avatar and realize that there is a problem that gets passed on to the others to deal with; it seems minor at first but becomes the last Avatars focus.

I'd have at least 1 Avatar dedicated to a humorous plot, lighthearted and fun. Theater episode but heartwarming; this would probably be incredibly difficult to do with such few episodes expanding on a character.

Each episode would have to be littered with tidbits of lore or background story that's not told through the characters which would enable a return to any Avatar's time to explore their life or the general timeline of their existence should there be interest in a specific Avatar.

I'd try hard for a TV-14 rating but would most likely be stuck with PG.

Because the equalists destroyed most of Republic city gangs this result in foreign mafias from other nations to replace the old one. I think it would be neat to acknowledge korra as overall, a pretty terrible avatar with one "good" achievement in that she kept the spirit world open.
There have been bad avatars in the past after all, rekindling the connection and having the new avatar let go of trying to "fix" *all* of korras mistakes would be interesting. Learning that sometimes, people fail, and sometimes, all you can do is try and learn from that past and simply move forward.

basically I'd just like them to admit korra kinda fucked up, but thats okay, because sometimes thats just life. And I'd really love to see the earth avatar help the aftermath of the broken earth kingdoms

How about the name “air nomad becoming a point of contention that results in many sub communities of nomads.
You have some that basically dedicate their lives to live in cloistered in monasteries, you have on there is that end up basically becoming gypsies, and some who just fade away.

The comics mentioned this but I think they overplayed the Japanese aspect to the point of having some Ainu and Yayoi people. I have the idea of Ainu and Haida ish Water Tribes on the islands off the south pole(hence why a lot of people in Kyoshi Island wear blue) and in the far northern part of the Earth Kingdom, living near the northern air nomads. And some Polynesian like water tribes scattered around

Early enough to see the Sun Warriors come into conflict with new arrivals and slowly becoming conquered and subdued until we have the culture we have now

I always had the idea of Kyoshi once being some awkward lanky kid who got more jaded and after she was forced to grow up. She wears her geisha get up because some warlord demanded wives from her village, and she and some others escaped and formed the Kyoshi Warriors and wandered around the Earth Kingdom back home

Kuruk would have left the world a mess and she would have to deal with it. She lived to be over 200 so I imagine her journeying into the sprite world to find him , coming bacl the same age and having more to deal with, eventually dying in the woods somewhere

Also a yuri romance

Somewhere in the past there would have been a kingdom or culture with a caste system with benders at the top, and smart resourceful people like Jet and the earth kingdom inventor guy fighting it. The Avatra would have to deal with ineqyality and a caste system that we actually see unlike in Korra. Some internal conflict happens when kings still get non bender children since they keep slipping away from spirituality

Also some air monks with none bending servants and the Avatar stopping this, since I remember hearing that some Buddhist monks keep slaves

I really want to use metal bending and especially lightning bending even though that would devalue their importance in the original series

The good thing with a catastrophic genocidal war though is that a lot of valuable information will be lost so you can imagine almost anything. Probably use Wan Shi Tong as a framing device

The technology in AtLA was creative or just other worldly. War blimps, reversible tanks, a giant drill, a whalenshaped submarine powered by waterbending. I like to imagine some independent air benders would use Da Vinci esque helicopters

Despite the fact that it had some shit concepts I think it was a solid premise at the core, and certainly the best attempt at making an Earth Avatar that I've seen (at least from /co/).

Sure some will say that 1980s Avatar wouldn't work but the reality is that the universe was always some level of anachronistic from the very beginning.

Remake Korra, but change everything and have different people write, produce, and direct the show.
It'd have to be about traveling the world again, the avatar would be share the spotlight with a non Bender, and there wouldn't be a focus on romance until it got a second season.

It's fine as is, I think the original series is perfect and doesn't need expansion. We saw all three Air Temples and both Water Tribes, a solid chunk of season 2 is in the Earth Kingdom and a solid chunk of Season 3 is in the Fire Nation. The characters all had complete arcs, the lore all had ample development. The first series is damn near perfect and requires no expansion through any means.

It's pretty bad. Starts off decently but in the end it goes the way of book, a whole lot of flashy things with no substance to it. It has a villain that isn't really a threat, the MC is weakened but we all know she'll recover and so on. The only legitimately good thing about it is Bolin and Varricks travel back to RC, but Bolin falls flat again once he gets there.

1. Slice of Life/Traveling series with the earth avatar one cycle after Korra. Since peace is pretty much sustained with the world both with the nations and the spirit world, there's no need immediate need for the avatar's presence. Orphaned and then discovering what it means to be the avatar, the earth bender seals the 3 other forms of bending and becomes a wanderer. Avatar can't metalbend or lavabend.

2. For months the moon begins to draw closer to the earth causing major shifts in the ocean and the weather. Before impact, the moon disappears and so do the fish. The earth doesn't turn red but the waterbenders still lose their power. Earthbender society that lives miles below the surface captured the fish and are using it to attain the ability to waterbend. People in here are disgusted with the technological advancements draining the spirit world's energy. Earthbenders bending the earth closer to the Sun to achieve enlightment and turn everyone into Avatars because the Sun is the source of all bending and spiritual power. Earthbender Avatar resides in the city.

Deflated the mysticism and fantasy elements for me about the setting that was done so creatively in the original to something giving lovecraft-world feels, idk. Enjoyed ATLA's setting much more which had a more Renaissance feel in terms of culture tech (despite steam engines).

They can go for something just after or before ATLA imo but anything beyond Korra would just be unrecognisable and lead to a gimmick of advancing time to settings I believe the writers would be entirely untalented at presenting or just not as comfortable with like they did the original. The closer to ATLA's period the better.

Right, when I watched the original series I wasn't left wanting to see anything else. Abundant time was spent on every character and location, there's not a single thing I can think of where I go "aww man, I wish we had gotten another episode focused on this". The series leaves you immensely satisfied.

I'd retcon the shit out of the Avatar Wan idea, for starters.

I'd make a different series that was set thousands of years in the past, during a different end-of-the-world period.

It'd be one in which the Water Tribes fuse into the Ocean Tribe, a sea-faring super-capitalist nation, with merchants and pirates. (Sorta like Varrick, but not exactly). They use ships made of ice, and also have gigantic ice-citadels as well, which serve as their bases.

The story would be set during the beginning of the end of their reign, in which they grow so powerful, that the infighting among various spoiled politicians makes them militarized. Meanwhile, the Fire Nation is under the Ocean Tribe's influence, as is the Earth Kingdom's coastline. The inland Earth Kingdom consists of several isolated kingdoms of varying advancement, while the Air nomads are neutral.

The main conflict would come from a few ice-spirits that awaken, and attempt to use the already-colder climate to try and freeze the whole world, unbeknownst to the Ocean Tribe. So basically, it'd be a climate change story, but with ice rather than fire.
The Avatar would probably be a second-class child of Fire or Earth, born to one of the many concubines an Ocean Tribesman would have taken during their pirate-raids.

There are implied to be other settlements I think. Having only one location serve as a representative for an entire culture or geographic region is a fairly common thing in media due to time and budget constraints as well as a need to maintain narrative focus. Just think of Stargate SG-1 and how practically every planet has its whole population and government clustered around the gate in a modest sized village.

See the Avatar mod for Crusader Kings II for a fairly good imagining of what the setting would look like with all the minor story-irrelevant areas fleshed out and populated.

I think it was a bitch mood that they didn't include guns in the series. Early Chinese firearms were so distant and archaic from what would come later, that I think they would fit in a kid's series without really cause much of a difference.
I think the creators said that they couldn't compete with bending, but neither would archery swords

The "two siblings, one may or may not be a bender, the other is the Avatar" was one of my favorite aspects of Legend of Shen. None of the Avatars we've seen have any siblings.

I find this to be the most interesting idea yet; however, instead of the White Lotus, how about we make them Dai Li agents who are trying to recapture a young Earth Avatar who has just escaped their brainwashing? So here's how it works. Ever since the reappearance of Aang, Long Feng knew that eventually, an Earth Avatar would arise, following the cycle of Fire, Air, Water and then Earth. His goal would be similar to Fire Lord Ozai, having the Earth Kingdom rise in power but upsetting the balance. To do so, he'd need a well thought out plan, and a loyal lineage of Dai Li who would brainwash people for him into becoming sleeper agents. These agents would be scattered across the kingdom, long after he'd die of old age. There are two purposes for these sleeper agents:

>1. Once Korra had died, the news would reach the ears of the sleeper agents. This causes them to make false sightings of the new avatar at set locations and in timed intervals. The White Lotus are spread thin and in confusion.
>2. Should any sighting of the new Avatar not be on a set location/time, then the sleeper agents are all brainwashed to go, capture, rendezvous and go back to their lives as if nothing happened. (In this episode, we can have a white lotus member fortunate enough to be in the area and begin fighting off a few sleeper agents with the avatar's parents, having the upper hand before eventually overwhelmed in numbers.)

During the new avatar's harsh training and slow brainwashing, there are moments where the avatar state goes rampant in trying to protect him/her, followed by blacking out. This eventually becomes chronic where they fall unconscious at random intervals, leaving them defenseless; however, I also like the idea that the avatar is friends with both spirit and animals, who watch over the avatar's body.

It would center on a rag-tag group in a very metropolitan (but not Republic City) city and it would essentially be a heist that turns into them taking down a corrupt politician who has been embezzling taxes.

Korra might get a mention since she's the Avatar but that's all. It's more of a World of Avatar series instead, I guess.

I just don't want them going too far into the future.
