This said, after the so-so first couple of episodes, I found I quite liked it. David Tenant played the hell out of his (figuratively) mustache-twirling villain and managed to infuse him with some genuine menace. I found Avacado's death to be surprisingly impactful. I kept laughing for days afterwards every time I thought of Gary's reaction to Kevin's death.
There's lots of good stuff in there. It's more than a bit uneven, but it's more good than bad, overall. I hope that they get a second season so we can see the writers continue to refine their craft. This feels like one of those series which, if it gets four seasons, we'll be recommending it to people with the caveat "You just have to get past the first season to get to the consistently good stuff."
