New characters can be good. Characters that are treated like deviantart OCs are bad, because they tend to be overpowered or become vital in some way to established lore/continuity. Comics have almost a hundred years of mythos. It’s not hyperbole to say that established continuity is sacred in some ways. Especially for icons like Superman. That’s why people react negatively when chucklefucks like Bendis want to leave their mark by taking a giant shit on sacred ground and calling it writing.

Raptor, Muse, Ikari, Gorr, Court of Owls (in their first story only), Komodo, Corum Rath, etc

There can be villains who are inserted into a character's backstory/mythos and are still good because the story was good, the character themselves is entertaining, or the retcon just works.

Like Raptor was entertaining and the retcon didn't really change much in Dick's backstory and was instead just got tacked onto it. Court of Owls on the other hand was a bad retcon for Dick and they worked much better in just the first 10 issues of Snyder's run and also serve the Batman mythos better if they are just a bunch of rich assholes who don't want Batman fucking with their stuff.

Hack writers feel the need to connect everything. Its the writing equivalent of color-by-numbers. There is a certain appeal to the simplicity but nobody would ever mistake it for art. This makes cosmic DC feel smaller not grander.
