The Lion Guard is currently in the middle of a six month hiatus. It was a monetary failure for Disney, as they wanted the merchandise to sell as well as Paw Patrol stuff. It didn't. However, they're stuck with a season three that was already in development.

The show-runners claim they planned everything out perfectly so that the show fits within the timeline perfectly. Is that even possible? Even if Kion and his friends fuck off and leave the pride lands, everything in the show is inconsistent with The Lion KIng and The Lion King 2. Kiara is a completely different person in the show.

Paw Patrol seems like one of those irrationally popular franchises whose success can't really be duplicated, like TMNT. That was a pretty unrealistic expectation on their part.

They churned out a huge amount of merch for this show before it was even out. They lost money filling up toy aisles anticipating it to be a huge success and it wasn't.

All those knockoff series they tried back in the 90's. Street Sharks, Biker Mice, Battle Toads, Cow Boys, none of them ever came close.

Also after Power Rangers turned into a success they tries adapting every toku show they got their hands on.

It's talking dogs flying planes, driving trucks, in subs, space, just every major vehicle around going on rescue missions. Kids are likely more into the cool jets and cars than the dogs that drive it. Disney did not take notice and just made it about the animals.

And somewhat to what >>102184993 said about the other toku shows that everyone tried getting their hands on, none of them had giant robots. They sometimes had motorcycles or something but kids wanted the big robots.

This, it exist for a bursting bubble market, a thing the market was not ready for and succeeded, when people try to replicate the success they fail because either the bubble already crashed or the fans only care about the bubble maker.

I hate to go /v/ but this is exactly what happens when multiple companies chase a trend, happened with MMOs, CoD and it's happening with battle Royales, the last time trend chasing was successful was during the doomclone era were the market was relatively new so the competition wasn't as though and people already had Doom so they welcomed anything similar.

It's better to do one's own IP than try to make a derivative because one was successful, in this market either the customers have to many options to buy a derivative or the bubble crashes before you can profit from it, especially on something with such a lengthy process such as animation with a terrible marketing line as toys, at least in the West. Japan is able to get away with it given the media mix angle but Disney fucked it up by being a chaser and not an innovator.

And video games just follow trends, in 94 everything had to be a fighting game, 96 a roaming through the dark halls fps, 98 everything had to be a turn based rpg, it just does that.

Maybe season three will actually be better, since they know it failed. Season two was better than season one. The plot with Scar's ghost is stupid, but he did send the hyenas out to straight-up assassinate characters on four different occasions. They do that stupid thing where they never say the word "kill", but dance around it like cartoons always used to do.

Technically Doom did it with it being a refined Wolfenstein, it became a trend setter and created a market where multiple IPs became kings.
Starcraft was a case of convergent evolution for RTS but was a definitive king among the competition.
Fate fucking did it twice with the original and the fucking mobile game, it was impressive to see OG fate rise in power in the booming VN market of it's time.
One could argue that Monster hunter is this in it's origins it refined a formula from other existing games and became a staple, I hate it's influence along Dragon Quest but both are kings of their genres in generations that weren't about copying genres but became mainstays after refining a formula, they are so popular that they fuck with other mediums given their influence.

However if you want to talk about a genre boom that caused multiple hit IPs you have to look at Japanese horror, many followed RE success but had their own spin and while their market was saturated they succeeded.

Talking about cartoons it is harder to pinpoint, as most of the clones of an IP tend to be inhouse such is the case of Oggy vs Zig and Sharko both were successful but the latter copied the slapstick formula of one hell of a long running show and both share crew and even producers.
