Oh boy, another "discuss old /co/" thread, I think I only saw 2 of those so far this week.
>>102138092>>102138217Reminder that it's not /pol/ posters posting their shit everywhere, it's all comics, games, tv shows, and every goddamn form of media whatsoever, that keeps making political statements that the rest of the world discusses. This has been like that since FOREVER - you had a comics where Doctor Doom is crying at 9/11, you have comics where a Vietnam veteran starts an urban guerrilla war vs criminals, you had Harry Osborn getting on LSD trips, or Green Lantern being asked if he ever did anything for black people. Today you have Silver Sable saving refugees and Ms Marvel discussing how tolerant muslims are.
In the past they put these in, I dunno, TV shows. Or radio shows. Rock music. Hollywood movies. Or whatever it was that could get to the most people. But I can give you 19th century epic poems which is nothing but a huge allegory for how the media hated their king (see: "the Bards of Wales", by János Arany). So basically this ALWAYS EXISTED AND ALWAYS WILL EXIST.
What changed? Well, the things you used as escapism from the real world - video games, internet sites, etc. They grew up, they became mainstream. Everyone can access them, and so they became the most important medium for communication. Same happened with 4chan: it became so big and so old that people now use it to discuss politics. Or even, just discuss the political content they shoehorn in every comic book, every video game, every fucking youtube video.
So basically nothing changed, 4chan just became so popular.
Question is, what will be the next form of escapism that we will use to escape from all of this?
