Clickbait title aside, I didn't actually hate the short so much as didn't care for it whatsoever in the context it was presented. I came in to watch Incredibles 2, not some boring YouTube-tier short. I also hated the art style, but tried not to let that effect my opinion on it.

tbf, the 8 mins of car commercials promoting increased personal debt probably impressed the youth in the audience. :-/

I2 was a great movie btw. Predictable but a worthy little action flick. Would watch again.

This short doesn't work because 1) the art style is ugly I honestly think that was a man and not a woman. 2) the literal concept of anthropomorphic food is plainly retarded in all respects. Objects like cars barely even work, but food? Get out of here with that shit. Not even Adventure Time could make anthro food work.

Am I the only one who didn't like this chick? Something about her body language completely put me off and made me dislike her from the get-go. She also felt slightly out of place, as a more modern type of person clashing with the nostalgic setting of the world of Incredibles.

That whole group of them had really strange character designs. The original movie's superheroes had simple appearances reflective of their time period. The new ones, in that introductory group at least, had exaggerated body types. Void felt unlikeable though despite OP powers

Just came out of the theater for this movie too. It was a lot more fun then I thougt it'd be. Biggest flaw was it didn't come out ten years ago

To discuss the actual Incredibles 2 movie and not the short, I saw it today and was a bit disappointed. The twist was a bit too obvious, I felt they didn’t end up anywhere interesting with Jack Jack or Bob’s arc and while I did enjoy it, it wasn’t as emotionally compelling as the first one. It was still pretty good though.

I felt like 2 was a bit more disjointed than 1 in general, plus some minor things I disagree with like Voyd's "Yay me!" line and the fact that even while doing hero work, Elastigirl and the Devtec guy seemed more concerned with publicity than the actual hero work at some points. Also a minor gripe, but sometimes the character animations felt more like they were trying to mimick irl movements rather than accentuate them more stylistically in conversation scenes. Still a fun movie overall, but not about to take 1's throne.

I feel Void's slightly anachronistic style and behavior was a good way to emphasize the changing of the guard (especially since she's clearly closer to Violet's age than Helen's) and since super heroes are freaks anyway, it doesn't need much justification. Devtec guy's focus on publicity was trying to make it seem like he's also in on it, but it didn't work since they made the sister too obvious. I'd have to rewatch the whole movie to see how the animation style differed. I will say that the Elastigirl and Screen Slaver chase/fight was some great shit.

That one was cool, there were some well-used slasher elements in that and you could definitely feel the tension once she was initially at a clear disadvantage in the light-up room. It wasn't a tone you often feel in superhero movies, least of all in a fight involving the main character.

I don't know if I'd pin that on autism so much as some slight neurosis or one of those mental disorders that gives you some mannerisms of a trauma victim without actually having experienced a traumatic event. Could be wrong, though.

Void could've easily experienced a traumatic event. I know all the Incredibles are implied to have been born with powers, but it isn't exactly uncommon for a super hero to gain powers after something awful occurring to them. Like a freak accident.

Maybe she did, guess we won't know until Incredibles 3. I think I'm just predisposed to not liking people with that kind of body language in general since it just kind of implies they're weak imo, plus the hair just makes me think of annoying peole with the same hair style irl and in other media.
She fought pretty well as a villain without any personal inhibitions and came through for Helen in the end though, so at least there's that.

One minor thing though, Bob's VA sounded way, way too old to be voicing him. I mean, I totally get that it's been 14 years and they wanted to use the same voice actors and everything, but Bob is supposed to be, what, 50? And he sounds 75 in I2.

What did ya'll think about the rest of the oddball new era supers? Very cheesy shit, but I liked the gags with the electric guy even if he didn't have a very interesting moveset. Violet shocking him with his own lightning in her little shield ball was incredibly satisfying. Honestly, all of Violet's fights were incredibly satisfying. I'm glad they let her use her shields more aggressively.

I'm glad Violet wasn't just support with her shields too, seems like a power that would let complacent writing fall back on that. The crusher guy was cool, any moment with him as the enemy felt appropriate dread given how deadly he potentially could be and was.
