The fucked up trying to get it on TV. Adult swim wanted to change the name from hellbenders to something else because apparently they already had a bunch of shit related to hell and didn't want to make it a common theme.

Professional animator, funny story about these newgrounds guys (not just these two, the rest of those guys from that podcast that got big)

There's a dude we all know, would help us get jobs, and put together some great projects himself. Swell guy. But he had one vice: He'd keep inviting these newgrounds dummies to everything, and keep trying to give them gigs on major projects. They'd fuck up, miss deadlines, say a bunch of idiotic stuff, get into fist fights, you name it. We'd all try and look the other way, maybe they're close friends, but then they'd go on twitter rants about how much they hated currently airing tv cartoons. You know, the stuff the rest of us were actually working on to make a living, the stuff we got gigs on because of our hard work and not because we made fun of autistics in a youtube video. And then those guys themselves would try and bring in SHADMAN, because ofc they would. And for some reason this didn't all stop immediately after the MAGfest panel they all ruined.

I don't dislike any of the sleepycast people nearly as much as some people in this thread, but I still can't believe they tried to pitch this to adult swim, there isn't any substance there.
If hellbenders were made by literally anyone else no one would notice or care.
I have to wonder how that pitch even sounded, some suit in adult swim asked them "so what is this show about?" and I can't for the life of me imagine them answering anything other than "uh it's two guys and they do random stuff".

That group (Sleepycast, OG Newgrounds ect) suffer from terrible work ethic. The whole point of Sleepycabin was to have a environment built around working together to similar goals. They released literally nothing outside of the podcast. They're also so deeply entrenched in "their way" that they refuse to adapt or think things through. Yes, the algorithm has fucked over being an independent animator for the most part, but it isn't a death sentence.

Edd Gould showed what a single animator can actually achieve through perseverance, and it's hardly a shock that that era of the "youtube animation" genre died with him.

Because DD and Julian filming for OneyPlays once a week was really keeping them from getting any work done. There’s something wonderfully tragic about the Sleepcabin guys never getting what they want.
I mean you’d think that after 2 years of being funded to do the sum total of jack shit and not being able to put out a SINGLE piece of animated content between the 6-7-8 of them, they’d figure something was wrong, but nope.

Chris became a the very thing he detested, a letsplayer. Zach can’t seem to get Schmucks off the ground. Stamper’s life seems to be in a permanent state of fabulous chaos.

I absolutely fucking love these idiots but the truth of it is that the SleepyCast will probably be the most consistent, productive and funniest thing they ever do.

This happens all the time especially in Hollywood. Your script or IP might get 'optioned' which is technically picked up, but may never get greenlit for a film. So you can sell an idea off and still make money from that one initial sale, but potentially it could just sit in limbo forever.

he started off as an animator, and also someone who mocked lets plays.in fact i'm pretty sure oney has gone on record as saying he fucked hated lets plays at one point

then made an LP channel himself initially as a joke/time waster that mocked the conventions of LPs and generally had a happy-go-lucky, unfiltered atmosphere. there's a genuine sincerity to chris/dingdong/julian banter that legit just feels like 3 friends goofing off and playing games, i suppose that is 'comfy' for some people

channel is a success, more than intended

it's now difficult to do anything that isn't the channel because it is making money and getting attention. so that means more episodes need to be produced to keep it rolling

the channel exposes chris's personality, making him 'undesirable' in some circles (his liberal use of the word 'faggot' for example) which makes it harder to get out of his LP bubble

ultimately chris is stuck doing it for the time being while his old fans bitch and moan that he isn't animating anymore

And Leo and Satan was their best looking work. It's because he's not trying to bite off more than he can chew. He just does a couple of pics each week of popular waifus and that's enough to sustain him financially. Everyone else is taking big risks and investing a ton of time into big projects or a pilot that might end up going nowhere which probably stresses them out a bit. The Oneyplays stuff had given them an incredible platform and over the course of 48 hours they've completely dismantled everything they'd accomplished with it (besides the patreon money)
