While I enjoy Star and Marco's adventures it never seems to go anywhere or stick with anything. It's moving fast but absolutely nothing noteworthy is happening other than shipping drama. The fact they keep digging Starco up and making it too obvious they are getting together just shows how uninspired the show is. They could have included all of the characters and built a much stronger arc but they just didn't. What about earth and all those characters? What about Marco's friends, Jackie, Buff Frog, Ludo, Janna, that one Asian chick at Star's school, half of Mewni, etc. Nothing is ever elaborated on and the tone changes wildly.
They don't bother to ever explain anything. The magic is explained weirdly, characters are never developed and disappear, the characters that are developed are just shipping pawns, stuff is written off to maintain a season status quo, etc. Say what you will about other shows like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, etc, but at least they stick with the thing they are going for, filler included. Star just feels schizophrenic. It's very cute and occasionally funny and the one off episodes are enjoyable but at a whole series level none of it means anything. It's just fluff and very unstable unsatisfactory fluff.
