Real talk, /co/
Is it possible for American animation to one day have the same diversity as the Japanese one?

We are not talking about quality here, since it's subjective and will not end in good conversation - just specifically diversity in plots, ideas and genres.

Not only Japanese animation has a very wide variety of genres - even to this day, despite their market being overflown with generic "school waifu" bullshit, for years they've been consistently producing cartoons with new, diverse and niche plots, that in the west would be considered "weird indie stuff"

For example, the only way pic related would be made in the US is if it was a stop motion cartoon by Wes Anderson. Otherwise it would have to be changed to be either "adult humor sitcom" or "family entertainment 3D cartoon"

My question is - what would have to happen for American animation industry to get out of the narrow path it been stuck in?
