Why is disney so uptight that they refuse to make anything serious anymore or mature? Everything has to be either a light hearted quipfest or sugary princess schlock. Are they really still stuck mentally in the clean cut suburbia 50s culture? If they dont change soon everything fox owns will be ruined by being botched and changed to meet their pristine company image

They created Gargoyles to get in on the acclaim that BTAS has garnered in being a mature animated program. Unfortunately they sabotaged it in the 3rd season, and despite it having a pretty loyal fanbase over the past 2 decades and then swept the entire franchise under the rug until Jordan Peele mentioned he wanted to bring it back.

I can kinda see what you're getting at, but Gargoyles started about as "PC" as you can get. The main human character was half black and native, the main male was voiced by a black man, one of the other gargoyles is "gay coded", another is overweight, and the villain of the series are an evil Machiavellian white billionaire, and a strong angry woman with a decidedly exotic accent.
Not to mention the many episodes dealing with race, and prejudice in general.
The original show was an example of doing all those things will some class and modesty.

They just wanted something with the same dark tone as Batman so they could sell toys to boys. Disney was known as a company for little girls and they wanted to shed that image. They just didn't realize most kids didn't give a shit about well written Shakespearean drama.

But kids did, the show was pretty popular when it was on. It's just like in every other case of a new Disney IP they didn't actually care about it past the first 52 or so episodes they needed for syndication.
