>>101237710Loved it so much at first because of the blend of 3d and 2d animation. Writing wasn't really there yet, but I could appreciate this show because it was something new at the time.
The change that Season 2 brought with the 2d animation was weird, but it is something I can appreciate because I thought it was neat that the animators and writers were willing to change so much of their foundation to keep things fresh. Writing was really hitting its stride here.
Season 3 was adding in Void stuff and had Penny unshelled, and I thought that it was also great to see that the show was going to put in some nice little storylines here and there. Animation and general artstyle is more or less the same, a bit disappointed with that, but the prospect of having stories that can take up a few episodes was neat.
Season 4 was alright, I guess, nothing was really changing at this point. Rob storyline was great until the asspull at the end where none of it really mattered. The song from that rather mediocre sequel to the internet video episode was fantastic, and I usually despise musical numbers in cartoons.
Season 5 is such a drastic change in writing, and the art style not changing at all in a positive way (season 5 is generally the first time where anyone actually mentions that shading was lacking and almost absent at times) really put me in a weird position on my stance on the show for the first time. If a new artstyle was around, maybe it would have eased me into such a change in writing. The lack of storylines here was really disappointing. Some episodes are nice, but a lot of them aren't offering anything new.
And season 6 is like season 5, so my interest has waned greatly. I'll watch an episode about a character that isn't from the Watterson family, and the void stuff appearing again is catching my eye, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that. And I'm aware of Nicole's parents, but that plotline is nothing exciting to me; it could be done in a standard sitcom.
