Only tangentially related to the subject at hand, but I actually rather like the idea of peter attempting to find a surrogate father figure. Unfortunately it’s just handled poorly in the mcu.

You'd be surprised. When I was 16 and lost I started hanging out with my buddy's room mate who was 23. Because of him I developed a great work ethic, learned to look at life in a way that wasn't bitter and became a mechanic in the shop he worked at. I'd be selling dope or stealing shit or slacking off at Walmart working part time.

This. I can't tell you how many times I've read the phrase "Where are the Fantastic Four or the Avengers when you need them?" and things very similar to that. Shouldering enormous responsibility on his own is a pillar of the character.
