>>101089579>Also, Roberts' writing just lost all gravity over time.Robert's main trick was that in LSOTW & S1 of MTMTE all the character were basically nobodies. That's why he gave them personalities, quirks, stories, development etc. But because they were nobodies that created a sense of excitement that something meaningful and impactful can happen to them. Not just death mind you, but genuinely status quo breaking shit.
Like you know that Starscream or Optimus or any of the S1 characters can't die and stay dead. They are the poster child even if the writer leaves, the next writer is going to bring them back. Would there really be a writer post Roberts that would care enough about Swerve, a toy only character to bring him back if something happened to him? No way.
But as time went on these characters became the default, got their own fanbases and Roberts got afraid of fuckign with them in order not to incur fanbase wrath and people dropping the book. And that ironically caused people who were into the book to drop it because people got tired of Tailgate drama, got tired of Chromedome drama, people just got tired and wanted.
Instead of constantly bringing in new character and having a rotating cast, the started milking his "main cast" way past what they could do. The book could've legit lasted forever if Roberts was smart enough to play on what made him big in the first place.
