>>100691992so it's just an accident that for a property that is meant to be geared toward boys, every male is a tired or ignorant beta, and the only eligible female looks like a dyke.
honestly, i'm not even that bothered by the 'inferior' men since i wasn't a fan of the original and i have no problem with comedies that make fun of dudes.
the one design choice that really sticks out to me is the pudgy ass sword.
even the most ardent alt wrong moron has to admit that most people are not born perfect. a man can be short in stature and that is just the randomness of nature. ... but why the fuck is the SWORD like that? why does a sword, which is engineered fit to purpose, look like a squat double bladed cleaver instead of like an actual functional sword?
with that, the cartoon seems to be less of a knowing commentary on how people are hilariously imperfect and rather more like the political (false) narrative that 'gender roles r dumb' and how everything masculine or male oriented is bad or problematic.
a sword is a masculine thing. it is traditionally wielded by men, is fascinating in its utility and how it is both empowering and dangerous, and it is literally symbolic of power.
i take no issue with lionel being a short pudgy dude but his sword ought to be an actual fucking sword with actual sword dimensions. the original is a short sword, but it is still recognizably a sword. the thing in thundercats roar is a goddamn cleaver, and a cleaver is not a sword. there is no reason why a sword ought to look like a cleaver unless its creator is explicitly anti swords.
the creator is spitting in the eye of tradition and implying that it is unnecessary. that a symbol of masculinity, power, authority, and the ability to defend one's self is unnecessary.
it's a fucking sword. a sword is supposed to be a sword. i'm a fucking gun nut but you won't see me using a gun as a tea tray. you cannot substitute these things and any attempt to do so is a transparent meta commentary.
